Qualifying examination

REQUEST FOR THE QUALIFYING EXAMINATION 

Regular students must request the qualifying examination, upon agreement of the advisor within the established deadline, by filling a specific form:

– Master’s – until 18 months from the program start and having earned at least 32 credits.
– Doctorate – until 28 months from the program start and having earned at least 24 credits.
– Direct Doctorate – until 34 months from the program start and having earned at least 56 credits.

Please check your registration deadline in the Janus System Student log. Also check the reunião da CCP-PPGEP closing date, as your request will be assessed at the meeting.
The qualifying examination must happen until sixty days from the requested date.

Examination board members must be registered in the USP System. If necessary, fill in the teacher registrationportuguese or englishand send the document to ppgep@usp.br.


QUALIFYING EXAMINATION 

The qualifying examination must happen within sixty days from the request date. After the request, check the examination deadline at the Janus System Student Log.
The qualifying examination consists of a public oral presentation, lasting between 20 and 30 minutes, to the examination board, in a reasoned and critical way, of the research referred to the candidate’s Master’s dissertation or PhD thesis.

After the oral presentation, there will be a question-and-answer session by the examination board, for a maximum of three hours. After that, the examination board must record the recommendations in the minutes, approving the candidate or not. Next, the advisor must hand over the examination minutes and declarations of board membership (if needed) to the secretariat, to be signed by the coordination:

– QUALIFYING EXAMINATION MINUTES

To schedule the examination, the advisor must contact the other examination board members appointed by the CCP-PPGEP, and forward by email or paper, the qualifying text.

The student must request a meeting room reservation to the PPGEP-EPUSP secretariat.

Students who fail the qualifying examination may apply for new examination only once and must apply for the new examination within 60 (sixty) days of the first examination. The second examination must happen within 60 (sixty) days from the new application.
