Move from special to regular student
Moving from special to regular student will happen only under advisership from faculty accredited to the program.
The move will not be allowed if a student receives two “R” grades or three “C” grades in USP courses.
Moving from special student to regular student status will happen only under the following circumstances:
a) If a candidate were approved in the selection process and is granted a Master’s or Doctorate scholarship from a funding agency (FAPESP, CNPq, CAPES). In this case, the respective advisor must agree and state it formally in writing.
b) By the advisor’s request to the CCP-PPGEP, on an exceptional basis, in written form, if occurring before earning special student course credits or being granted a scholarship. In such case, the CCP-PPGEP will decide to approve the request or not.
c) Earning sufficient course credits to qualify. In that case, agreement and written statement from the respective advisor is also necessary.
A passage to regular student request will be denied if a student: a) has failed in two courses or more as a special student; b) has received three C grades in courses earned as a special student; c) did not carry out the activities proposed in the Academic Plan; d) a C or R grade in a course must be compensated by an A grade in another course.

2. Approval of PhD thesis research project by the CCP-PPGEP, hearing research group representatives or an ad hoc referee appointed by the research group.
3. Letter from the advisor containing a critical maturity evaluation, illustrating the advisee’s performance in bibliographic production during the program period.
4. Proof of doctoral level proficiency in a foreign language, according to the selection process call of notice in effect.
5. Once the conditions above are met, the proposal to move to Direct Doctorate will be assessed during the Master’s qualifying examination, whose examination board, in this case, must be composed of the advisor and two other members with doctorate degrees from outside the Program.
In the evaluation, the examining board must take into consideration the candidate’s possibility accomplishing submission requirements for a Doctorate qualifying examination, according to the Program Regulation. Regulamento do Programa.
